Careers Guidance

To provide a coherent programme of Careers Education, Information and Guidance to ensure that students have a realistic appraisal of self and opportunities and the knowledge and skills to put plans and decisions into actions.

Careers Education and Guidance begins in the Fourth Form with an Introduction to the Careers Library and its resources and with a workshop introducing Fast Tomato a web based interactive Careers Guidance and Education for Teenagers.

For the Fifth Form a Careers Taster Workshop Morning is held on Saturday 9th February 2008 allowing each student to find out about a number of careers options.

As Charterhouse is an 'All In' member school of ISCO (Independent Schools Careers Organisation)  all our Fifth Forms are automatically registered and sit the Morrisby Tests. These are assessments that find out what people are like, what they can do, what they know, what interests or motivates them. Feedback sessions are organised for each pupil to discuss their individual profile with a trained ISCO careers adviser. All Housemasters have also been trained in the interpretation of the Morrisby profiles so that they can advise on Sixth Form Subject choices.

ISCO also provides an online support system for all pupils: Futurewise - the personalised careers guidance and planning service. More information can be found on their web site www.myfuturewise.org.uk

After their GCSE exams boys are encouraged to attain some work experience.

Careers Talks on a variety of subjects are organised for the Specialists and interested Vth Forms and attendance at ISCO Expanding Horizons Courses is encouraged. Courses can be booked on http://www.isco1.org.uk/cxcourses.html

Charterhouse is in the process of obtaining a Career Mark Certificate of excellence in Careers Education and Guidance. The second of six modules was successfully completed in CQ2007.
