Higher Education and Careers
‘Careers education and guidance aims to prepare young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult working life. It equips them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes for managing their lifelong progresss in learning and work’ (National Association of Careers and Guidance Teachers Code of Practice 2002)
Because almost all our pupils go on to Higher Education (over 99%) every year, we place a great deal of emphasis on providing information, guidance, support and administrative backup for UCAS application or application to Universities outside the UK - particularly to USA. We also provide information, guidance and advice on Gap Years.
In addition to this, in keeping with the Government proposals for the national 14-19 curiculum, we aim to provide Careers Guidance to pupils throughout the school, particularly focusing on the Fifth and Sixth forms (Years 11, 12 & 13).
We also aim to facilitate Work Experience Placements for pupils (particularly in theVth Forms and 1st Year Specialists) and to encourage all pupils to seek work experience by arranging their own placements during holidays or to attend ISCO organised Careers Experience Courses.
