Sixth Form Day Admissions

As Charterhouse continues to experience high demand for sixth form places, we will be opening a new Day House for sixth form boys and girls in September 2010.

The Day House, Fletcherites (pictured above), is intended to extend the opportunity of a Charterhouse Sixth Form education more widely than before. Day boys and girls will enjoy the same teaching and extra curricular facilities as the boarders, and they will be able to stay at school until late in the evening if they wish. They will also have the same chance to develop their sporting, cultural, spiritual and service interests.

Situated centrally, next to seven of the boarding houses, central dining rooms and the Queen’s Sports Centre, the newly refurbished Day House will offer 54 day pupils excellent facilities, including studies, changing rooms and butteries.  It will also have its own dining room in the central dining block. Day boys and girls will have their own Housemaster, Matron and House Tutors to ensure excellent academic and pastoral support. This will take the capacity of the School close to 800 pupils, with over 90% of pupils boarding.

The fees are set at a level which takes account of the range of educational opportunity on offer but recognises the differential costs between day and boarding.  A limited number of bursaries for those with proven financial need will be available.

Selection Process

The selection process for day pupils will be separate from that for boarders, but we will be looking for similar qualities; academic ability, talent in other fields and the personality and self-confidence to make the most of what we have to offer.

Application forms should be submitted by 16th October.  We will then request reports from candidates' present schools.  The selection day will be held at Charterhouse on 7th November when candidates will sit three standard papers (vocabulary, arithmetic and non-verbal reasoning) and two further papers in subjects of their own choice.  Candidates will also be interviewed.

Offers of places are announced on 1st December.

For information about the Day House or to organise a visit, please contact the Admissions Office on 01483 291501 or by email  admissions@charterhouse.org.uk.
