Bursaries

Bursaries

Charterhouse is committed to provide bursaries for boys and girls who fulfil the admission requirements of the School but whose parents cannot afford the fees. All bursaries are means-tested, and reviewed each year to take account of any change in financial circumstances. Awards may cover up to 100% of the school fees. Eligibility for financial assistance is based on both parents' income and assets. Whatever the level of income, a bursary will not be given where net assets, after provision for school fees, would exceed the cost of an average house in the local area.

There are three types of bursary.

1.  Sixth Form bursaries for day pupils

At least 5 bursaries will be awarded annually to applicants to Fletcherites, the Sixth Form Day House. Candidates should indicate that they require a bursary on the application form, and their parents will be asked to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form shortly after the offer of a place. Parents will be invited for an interview with the Bursar before a decision on the level of financial support is made.

2. Year 9 Entrance bursaries

At least 2 bursaries will be awarded annually to pupils who will enter the Fourth Form (Year 9).  Applications should be received by Christmas in Year 6, and the selection will be made after tests and interviews held during the summer term of Year 6. School reports and testimonials will also be considered. The intention is to choose boys who will fully participate in the academic, sporting and cultural life of Charterhouse. Parents of boys who are selected will be asked to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form shortly after the offer of a place. Parents will be invited for an interview with the Bursar before a decision on the level of financial support is made.

3. Bursaries to support scholarships and other awards

Any winner of a scholarship or other award (except an exhibition) whose parents are unable to afford school fees is entitled to a bursary. Candidates’ parents should indicate that they require a bursary on the application form, and they will be asked to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form shortly after the offer of an award. Parents will be invited for an interview with the Bursar before a decision on the level of financial support is made.

All enquiries about bursaries should be addressed to the Admissions Office.
