Business and Management

Business and Management

The wealth of the world is founded on its trade and industry. What makes for a successful business? Our aim is to provide a thorough understanding of the techniques and practices that lie behind making informed business decisions.

At AS level, Business and Management complements the social sciences and arts-based subjects and can offer a greater breadth to the study of science and mathematics.

The Cambridge Pre-U course is essentially concerned with providing a comprehensive introduction to the study of business. With the academic rigour and development of practical business skills, we look at contemporary business issues as well as the fundamentals behind China and India as emerging world powers.

Particular attention is paid to communication and presentation skills and there is a strong element of numerical work to develop the understanding of the quantitative methods used by businesses to research and measure objectives and performance.

The Business and Management Department staff has a wealth and variety of experience both in education and the commercial world.  This expertise enables the department to offer a rigorous analysis of business both from a theoretical and real-world point of view.

We are dedicated to developing and sharing best practice, and by holding regular meetings we look at ways to combine our different backgrounds to provide pupils with a stimulating and interesting curriculum. These backgrounds include A level examining, the development of the Pre-U syllabus and wide commercial experience within a number of national corporations including brand management, European marketing and work in the City.

Full details of the curriculum are available in the Under School (Years 9-11) Curriculum and Sixth Form Curriculum sections.
