Supporting Charterhouse

Supporting Charterhouse

In this quatercentenary, the School will be embarking on one of the most ambitious projects in its history. It aims to secure in the coming years the crucial long-term financial support of Old Carthusians, parents, former parents, leaving pupils of Charterhouse, and all members of the wider School community – enabling everyone to play an important part in shaping the future of Charterhouse.

The first stage of this initiative will be a major fundraising campaign with a number of key objectives, which we expect to launch formally once we have a groundswell of support behind us. However, this will be only the start of the School’s concerted efforts to involve and engage a large number of investors in its present and future development plans. It is only through the help of these contributors that the School will continue to thrive in the years ahead.

This is certainly a shift in culture for the School, as Charterhouse has traditionally had a number of one-off appeals rather than a sustained development programme. Much has been achieved, however, such as from the Appeal in the early 1980s to build the Ralph Vaughan Williams Music Centre, the Ben Travers Theatre, and the John Derry Technical Centre, and the Appeal in the 1990s to create the Queen’s Sports Centre.

The School’s new approach will be to give everyone the opportunity to contribute on an ongoing basis – giving Charterhouse the means each year to award more bursaries for pupils in financial need, to undertake a number of key building projects, to increase its endowment considerably, and to enhance the overall educational experience of current pupils at the School.

We warmly welcome gifts and bequests to Charterhouse. Please contact us today.
