SIXTH FORM Examination Results 2017

Charterhouse is again celebrating an excellent set of examination results with 93% of Cambridge Pre-U examinations taken awarded top grades. Fifty-six pupils achieved the equivalent of straight A grades or better at A level in all subjects taken; sixteen achieved the equivalent of A level A* grades in all their subjects. A remarkable three pupils achieved the top Distinction grade (worth more than an A* at A level) in all of their examinations.

The IB Diploma Programme results were strong too: almost half of our IB Diploma candidates achieved 37 points or more, the equivalent of more than straight A*s at A level (using the UCAS [UK university entrance] tariff). We also celebrated the success of our first candidate to score the maximum 45 points – a feat only achieved by a small fraction of one per cent of candidates worldwide.

Delighted pupils from both courses of study are now celebrating securing their university places, including twenty-one pupils who will take up their Oxbridge places as well as those heading for leading US universities such as Cornell, NYU, Stanford, Columbia and Penn, in addition to other top-flight international universities. Our Second Year Specialists have done very well indeed.

Mr Simon Allen, Deputy Headmaster (Academic), said: “I have been hugely impressed by the determined and committed approach shown by the pupils in preparing themselves for the examinations, and I am delighted for all of those who have secured places at one of their chosen institutions”.  In addition, he also paid tribute both to the teaching staff, for their outstanding work in preparing pupils for the examinations, and to the support that continues to be provided by the whole of the Charterhouse community.

Pre-U / A Level / IB Diploma Programme Percentages

In a small number of subjects an A level syllabus is followed. Pre-U equivalent grades have been given for A level and IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) subjects.

(I)GCSE RESULTS 2017

This year’s (I)GCSE results show one of the School’s highest ever set of results: 49% of subjects taken were graded at A* and the figure for A* and A grades combined was 79%.

All of the Year 11 pupils at Charterhouse take a minimum of nine (I)GCSEs: nine pupils this year gained straight A* grades and a further 49 achieved all A*s and As, showing an increase in performance over recent years.

Simon Allen, Deputy Headmaster (Academic), complimented the endeavour of the boys, as well as that of their beaks and staff; he also acknowledged the sterling work of Emily Fox (Master of the Under School) who leads the academic side of the School in the (I)GCSE years. “There are some wonderful success stories here this year, across the spectrum of ability: the boys should be both proud and pleased with their success. If they sustain their approach in the Specialists then they will do very well in the future, too.”
