Our aim is to provide a healthy and balanced range of food that is both nutritious and exciting for the pupils at Charterhouse.
We produce 90% of our menu on site with fresh raw ingredients. We have a 4 week rolling menu that changes each term to incorporate seasonal ingredients. We buy our food locally where possible and the majority of our meat and fish is British.
Our team of chefs use cooking methods and recipes that reduce the amount of salt, sugar and saturated fats. Choice is important and therefore we offer healthier alternatives with each meal, museli and fresh fruit salad at breakfast; a salad bar, jacket potatoes and fresh fruit at lunch and homebill.
We cater for a range of specific dietary requirements including lactose intolerance, gluten free and Halal. Each House has a list of individual needs and the options are briefed to the team before each meal.
The last audit carried out by the Waverley Borough Council environmental health department scored the highest grade of 5. We also commission an independent company to check food hygiene and health and safety within the catering areas.
Feedback from our pupils is encouraged and this is channelled through monthly meetings with representatives from each House, matrons and Housemasters. Each member of the School community has the opportunity to contribute to the continuing discussion of food provision.
Our Catering Manager, Nick Darby, welcomes the opportunity to talk to both parents and pupils about any special dietary needs or concerns about the catering service at Charterhouse.
Executive Chef, Geal Daval, recently did a short video for FRIMA, who supplied us with some of our catering equipment. You can view this from the link below:
