Welcome to the Charterhouse website: I hope that you find it helpful and informative. It is, however, only a website and is no substitute for a visit – and certainly not for the full educational experience. I hope, nevertheless, that it will give you a sense of what a busy, purposeful and ambitious school Charterhouse is. A Charterhouse education is a serious business but – and I hope that you will see this too – it is also great fun.
We are very lucky to be able to live, work and play in such an inspirational environment. Visitors are invariably struck by the great beauty of our campus and our buildings, not least our wonderful Chapel in which we gather together several times a week to celebrate our collective life and to have some space and time for reflection. We have a strong Christian tradition but we welcome and are respectful of pupils of all faiths and none.
Academic ambition is at the centre of all that we do here, and our pupils go on to study at the very best universities in Britain and across the world. We have a distinctive curriculum that includes a choice in the Sixth Form between two challenging and rewarding programmes of study, recognising that different courses suit different types of pupil. Our pupils achieve excellent examination results but it is their intellectual curiosity, which we carefully nurture, that is ultimately fulfilling and ensures success.
Charterhouse offers an exceptional extra-curricular programme with a wide range of activities encompassing the creative arts, outdoor education and a vast array of sports. We help our pupils to develop existing interests and to find new ones which will stay with them for life. Our teachers and specialist staff provide excellent pastoral care to support and sustain our pupils throughout their time at Charterhouse and beyond.
Our aim is to send our pupils out into the world with close friends and the ability to make new ones, with the knowledge and skills to succeed at university and beyond, and with a broad range of interests to enrich their lives.
A Charterhouse education is about more than academic excellence and the opportunities provided by our extra-curricular programme: it is about the values we hold dear and which our pupils demonstrate. We expect our pupils to be kind, tolerant and open-minded and, by the time they leave, to have developed an enduring sense of duty to society.
I hope that we will see you here soon.
