OC Football News 2012

The 3rd XI won the Junior League Cup against Harrow at the Imperial College Sports Ground in Teddington. Only twice before has a 3rd XI won the Junior League Cup. In 1992 Chigwell achieved it and our 3rd XI also achieved it in 2004. The difference between then and now is that the 3rd XI go into this game comfortably top of Division Two and on course for a possible 3rd XI double triumph in 2nd XI competitions, further evidence of our dominance of Arthurian League football.

In March 2012, the OC 1st XI won a vital Arthurian league game against the Foresters 4-1.

The AFA Intermediate Cup 2012

The 2nd OCFC XI has now reached the final of the AFA Intermediate Cup, a competition entered by open clubs. It is very difficult to describe how immense that achievement is and some would say represents the Club's finest achievement in this golden era. Hopefully as many supporters as possible will be able to attend the final at Winchmore Hill FC on 24th March at 3.00 pm. As far as we are aware no Arthurian League club has ever reached the AFA Intermediate Cup Final - that describes as well as anything what the 2nd XI have achieved.

Congratulations to Captain Chris Jenner and the 2nd XI, who until the weekend when they narrowly lost their London Old Boys Cup Semi-Final, remained unbeaten for the season. It is unusual for our 1st XI to be put in the shade. However the 1st XI and 3rd XI continue to top their respective league divisions. Every year we seem to take it to another level.

But there is plenty of football still to be played this season - all support for the teams in the remaining games will be very welcome.

OCs win the Arthur Dunn Cup 2011

The Old Carthusian 1st XI have contributed to the School’s Quatercentenary celebrations by winning the Arthur Dunn Cup. In a very exciting match played at Imperial College Sports Grounds in Teddington on Saturday 16th April, they beat the Old Etonians in a penalty shoot out after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The OEs took the lead early in the game and went 2-0 up just before half time. The OCs turned the game around in the second half and looked as though they were going to secure the victory but with seconds left the opposition equalised taking the game into an exciting but tired extra time.  In the penalty shoot out all Carthusians scored theirs and Eton missed one.

The Old Carthusians and the Old Etonians are two of the oldest football clubs in the country: the Old Carthusians FC was founded in 1876, five years before the Old Etonians.  Although both clubs have played in the Arthur Dunn Cup since its foundation in 1902-3, this was the first time that they had met each other in a Final.  The two clubs had, of course, met before in the FA Cup Final of 1881 which the OCs won 3-0. The Old Carthusians also won the FA Amateur Cup in 1894 and 1897. Both clubs are past winners of the Arthurian Premier League and they are again in close competition for this year's championship title.

Saturday’s victory was Charterhouse’s second great football success of the season and both finals have been played against Eton.  The Boodles Independent Schools FA Cup Final in March was won by the School 1st XI 2-0. Congratulations to both teams and to Malcolm Bailey (BH 75-), the master-in-charge of football and the OCFC coach.
