All scholarships and awards (except exhibitions) may be increased by bursaries to the value of the full school fee in cases of proven financial need, subject to funds being available.
Up to three Sir Robert Birley Scholarships worth 5% of the school fee and a further three, worth £1,000 per annum, are offered on the basis of performance in the entrance examination and interview.
There will also be up to seven Exhibitions, worth £500 per annum.
The Fletcher Scholarship is offered to a boy or girl from a local state school to attend the Sixth Form at Charterhouse. The Scholarship is worth £500 per annum, and is supplemented by a means-tested bursary of up to 100% of the school fee.
Two Art Scholarships are offered worth £1,000 per annum. The assessment will take place at Charterhouse on the Tuesday following the Sixth Form selection day in November.
Three Music Scholarships are offered, one worth 10% of the school fee and a further two worth £1,000 per annum. In addition, there is the John Pilling Organ Scholarship, that is worth 30% of the school fee. Music tuition on one or two instruments is free for Music Scholars. Music Exhibitions may also be awarded, which provide free tuition on one or two instruments. The auditions will take place at Charterhouse on the Monday following the Sixth Form selection day in November.
Two Sporting Excellence Awards for outstanding sportsmen or women are offered, each worth £500 per annum.
Applicants should show notable achievement in their chosen sport, namely representative or international honours. Although applications are welcome from across all sports, emphasis is placed upon football, hockey, lacrosse, cricket, golf, tennis, squash and swimming.
Applicants will be called for a sports specific assessment and interview as part of the process and, if successful, will enjoy the full range of benefits and support offered by the School's Sports Performance Programme.
Honorary Foundation Scholarships
Pupils joining the School at the beginning of the Sixth Form are eligible for Honorary Foundation Scholarships at the end of their first year.
Charterhouse in Southwark offers a biennial Scholarship to a boy or girl from Southwark to attend the Sixth Form at Charterhouse. The Scholarship will provide a boarding place at Charterhouse, supported by a means-tested bursary of up to 100% of the school fee. The next Charterhouse in Southwark Scholarship will be awarded for 2019 entry.
