The Department believes that it is crucial for pupils to begin to assemble an attractive curriculum vitae as soon as possible. Work experience forms an important part of this process. We encourage all pupils to undertake at least one work experience placement during their time at Charterhouse. For the majority this would take place in the post GCSE period in the summer term of the Fifth Form (Year 11) or during the summer holidays.
We encourage boys and their parents to arrange and negotiate their own one week placement closer to their home. This should take place the last week in June. From September 2010, HCS Careers Ltd provides the Health and Safety checks which are required by law for all UK based placements. The Vth Form boys are introduced to this programme in October.
The following letters were sent to parents to explain the work experience process:
The following forms are required to be filled in and returned to the school for each boy who will be undertaking work experience:
The Higher Education and Careers Intranet site holds information for Careers Taster Courses and additional Work Experience opportunities.
The HE & Careers department is coordinating a list of possible work experience contacts which any boy can ask for but this should be organised by December for work experience the following June.
In addition Belinda Knox the OC Relation Officer can provide work experience contacts with OCs for Specialists.
