Charterhouse Links with the Commuity

 Sports:

  1. Waverley District Cross-Country and Athletics Trials each May.
  2. Local schools use athletics track and facilities during CQ and over summer.
  3. Godalming Town Football Club uses pitches pre-season.
  4. OCFC use of pitches.
  5. Some beaks help at Farncombe Youth Football Club.
  6. Surrey FA Coaching Courses use school facilities.
  7. Staff often referee or coach at prep schools when requested.
  8. Prep School Sixes.
  9. Elite Soccer-prep schools select sides use grounds - incorporates prep and state U13's.
  10. U11 Elstead tennis club team use Charterhouse facilities.
  11. Surrey Cricket: Colts, Academy and 2nd XI matches. 
  12. Monday afternoon football programme for 25 year 5 & 6 boys and girls from Godalming Junior and Busbridge Junior Schools including tea in the CDR. This is run by Second Year Specialists.

Ongoing Activities in the Community:

  1. After school Latin club at Busbridge Junior School - taught by 6 Specialists.
  2. 2007/2008 Latin club at St Edmunds Primary School.
  3. Minimus teaching course (Classics).
  4. Classics Department - talks to local junior schools in Godalming.
  5. Group of Specialists help in four local schools in Godalming and Busbridge - sports and classroom activities.
  6. Specialist Monday activity - community service visits to the elderly.
  7. Pupils play at Parish Churches on Remembrance Sunday.

Recent one-off Community Projects:

  1. Specialists created a mural at St Edmunds Primary School CQ 2008.
  2. Portrait workshop conducted at Godalming Primary School 2006.
  3. A Watts Gallery run life drawing class will be conducted in Studio for general public in January 2009.
  4.  An Introduction to Financial Literacy For Starting Work - four presentations to Year 11 pupils at Broadwater School in April/May 2009.

Higher Education & Careers:

  1. All HE and Careers documents are made available for other institutions to use.
  2. Through ISCO we have volunteered as a local hub for their 'Inspiring Futures' initiative that extends ISCO services to the state sector.
  3. Applying to US College Board to become a SAT testing centre (we can open this to local schools).
  4. We are a 'Partner Institution' with Surrey University and work with the university and our admissions department to offer at least 1 Surrey Scholarship for sixth form study at Charterhouse.

School Facilities (excluding BTT) made available for:

  1. Brooke Hall used by Rotary Club for local fundraising events (St Marks School).
  2. Regional Debating competitions.
  3. Godalming Scouts Centenary & World Scouts Centenary.
  4. Godalming Choral Society.
  5. Waverley Mayor's tea party.
  6. Godalming Youth Orchestra.
  7. Surrey Fire Exercise.
  8. Genesis G2 charity concert for CHASE.
  9. Godalming Sports Awards.
  10. St Peter & St Paul Bell Ball.
  11. Scouts and Guides Carol Concert.
  12. Godalming Music Festival.

Ben Travers Theatre:
  1. Godalming Theatre Group: Three productions a year.
  2. Desmond Holt Concert - to raise money for local person to train at Guilford School of Acting.
  3. UKAYRoC - A Rocket Science UK Schools' Competition at Easter.
  4. Guildford School of Acting - use theatre for their summer performance.
  5. Stage Struck - local performing arts school.
  6. Arden Holford School of Dance and two other local dance schools.
  7. Danceramix.
  8. Summer School Drama Club 2 x 1 week each.  
  9. Corporate training days.
  10. Waverley Council.
  11. Fashion show for local group.

All school performances are open to the public and other schools are invited to certain productions of particular interest eg. 250 prep school pupils came to two special matinees of Macbeth and four schools came to see the production of Oedipus.
