Charterhouse has a highly qualified medical team offering a wide range of services. We hold a
Doctor’s surgery each morning with an appointment system and concurrently run a nurse-led triage clinic. The nurses have access to the Doctors at the Mill Medical Practice for emergencies that need immediate medical care. We also offer vaccination clinics, travel advice and routine vaccinations. Health education and promotion is integral to our care.
We run asthma and diabetic clinics where we encourage the pupils to understand the disease process and recognise when they may be at greater risk. We have ten beds within the unit where we can monitor pupils more closely and they may remain here for overnight stays if necessary.
The Bevan Wilson physiotherapy team offer surgeries in the Health Centre and the Queen's Sports Centre and are fully recognised by medical insurance schemes.
At all times we offer an entirely confidential service to the pupils. We encourage an open access to the pupils and we offer an extension to the day to day pastoral care within a busy school environment.

The Hunt Health Centre, pictured above, opened on 2nd November 2009. Named after Lord Hunt of Fawley (S.1924), it is an attractive and modern facility that will encourage our boys and girls to seek help when they need it, and provide them with the most up-to-date health care. It has three double and four single bedrooms with ensuite facilities, treatment and consulting rooms, an inner-courtyard and a reception area. The heating and domestic water system uses the latest air to water heat pump technology, reducing our CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, and uses renewable energy.
Pupil Health Form
At the start of every Quarter it is important for our medical team to know whether pupils have received any form of treatment during the holidays or if they are taking any medication when they return. The Health Form below should be filled in only if your son or daughter has received medical treatment.
If for any reason you would prefer to communicate directly with the School Health Centre, please call us on +44 (0)1483 291691.
If your child is unwell, please do not return him/her to School until they are fully recovered.
Fraser Guidelines
Many of the pupils at Charterhouse are between the ages of 12 and 16 years. It is important that we draw your attention to the ‘Fraser Guidelines’.
Gillick competency and Fraser guidelines refer to a legal case which looked specifically at whether doctors should be able to give contraceptive advice or treatment to under 16-year-olds without parental consent. But since then, they have been more widely used to help assess whether a child has the maturity to make their own decisions and to understand the implications of those decisions. Further information is available in the Factsheet below:
If you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact the Hunt Health Centre.
Travel
