This year the Charterhouse 1st XI has won the Southern Independent Schools' League and the Boodles ISFA Cup.  In twenty matches against other schools Charterhouse has only conceded five goals and kept a clean sheet on no fewer than sixteen occasions.  Led by Anthony Beddows, the team possesed the invaluable assets of a superb goalkeeper, an outstanding central defender and the priceless commodity of an indomitable team spirit.  In order to win the ISFA Cup they had to travel to Blackburn, Newcastle, Shrewsbury and Chester.  It was ironic that only in the final did they play at home, overcoming Millfield in a pulsating match played on Big Ground.  There were impressive away wins at Repton and St Bede's (Hailsham) to throw into the mix and the 3-0 victory over Bradfield in the final of the league competition was as emphatic as the scoreline suggests.
