Extreme Feat Fun Run ‘Pontifeat’

Mr Phillip Stapleton (Housemaster of Weekites) and a friend have set themselves the challenge of running for charity four of the most extreme marathons in the world in a single year: the highest, the lowest, the coldest and one of the hottest. Their target is to raise at least £150,000 for CHASE hospice care for children, a local charity, which provides care and support to life limited children and their families. Every penny of all personal donations received will go directly to CHASE and not towards funding the cost of marathons.

On a bright, clear and unexpectedly sunny Sunday morning in March, 128 parents, students, beaks and friends of Charterhouse took part in the fund raising event “Pontifeat” – a sponsored “fun run” based upon the cross-country run through the school grounds “Pontifex”, which is undertaken by the whole school annually.

The runners, walkers and even the occasional dog set off at 10am and could elect to run either the 1 lap (2.5 miles) or the more gruelling 2 lap (5 miles) race (the decision point being just after “deaths drop”!).

All 128 runners made it home to the finish, with the one lap race being won by Harry Muris in 16 minutes and 4 seconds and the two lap race being won by Lee Kemp in 28 minutes and 19 seconds. A special mention should also go to Christian Hacking who ran 4 laps in 1 hour, 8 minutes and 24 seconds!

A big thank you to all who helped on the day – we are hoping that the event may have raised over £15,000 for CHASE.
