The Prep School Wind Band Day has been a highlight of the School’s musical calendar since 1989. Wind Band Day was the brainchild of Charterhouse Head of Brass, David Wright who, realising that few prep schools had the resources to form a really large wind band, decided to make that experience available to them.
This year’s event, held in October, saw well over one hundred children coming from twenty prep schools playing a wide range of music to an incredibly high standard all day. The participants came together at 10.30 am and spent the whole day rehearsing and practicing musical exercises until their concert at 5pm.
The concert was a huge success. Hall was fit to burst with cousins, sisters and aunts in attendance, along with parents and grandparents. David Wright kept both the orchestra and audience entertained with quips and anecdotes in-between producing some wonderful music: ranging from ‘Comin’ ‘round the Mountain’ to Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slav.
