Macbeth

Julian Freeman’s production of Macbeth was a triumphant success, playing to enthusiastic audiences, including two well-attended Prep School matinees. From the spookily atmospheric appearance of the witches, nine in number, in the opening scene to the climactic broad-sword battle between Macbeth and Macduff, the play was performed with speed and panache, and all the actors articulated Shakespeare’s verse clearly and comprehendingly. Fergus Simpson as Macbeth and Antonia Vickers as Lady Macbeth gave performances of outstanding quality, and the rest of the cast followed their lead. This was as good a production as the BTT, or any other school theatre, has witnessed in many years, and all involved fully deserve the praise that they have received.
