On Thursday, the XV took on Hurtmore House at Charterhouse. After a number of injuries to key players, and with others playing out of position, the Charterhouse team was slightly under strength.
The opening fifteen minutes was a very physical affair, and the ball became rooted in the centre of the field. Then the ball broke left, and the quick Hurtmore backs took advantage of a large overlap to run in for the first try. The next ten minutes were a disaster for the home side as they conceded 3 more tries through missed tackles. Charterhouse rallied and raced into the Hurtmore half, and captain for the day, Will Orr, took advantage of a penalty close to the line and bundled over.
After another Hurtmore try, the half time whistle went and at the start of the second half, Charterhouse rallied once more. But, after spending ten minutes in Hurtmore territory, a break and a missed tackle resulted in a Hurtmore try. The men in pink battled back and scored twice, another from Orr and a well deserved try from Charterhouse man of the match Jack Chard. Hurtmore scored late on but the second half was a draw. The Final score was 42-15.
The next match is Epsom on Tuesday.
