Inaugural Cross-Country and Reading Week

Six pupils and four staff spent five days in the North Yorkshire Moors on the inaugural cross-country and reading week.

They ran in the most beautiful surroundings in what the locals describe as undulating terrain.  Inevitably the thick layer of snow (“not extreme just an inconvenience” according to the lady at the train station) meant that changes had to be made to the planned routes, but the snow meant the deserted small country lanes became ideal for running on.

Back in the cottages there was time for revision and, in the evening, play reading (Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound), poetry reading (Heaney, Dylan Thomas and Hughes) as well as more informal games (charades and the like).

It was a very successful trip, enjoyed by all and hopefully to be repeated next year.
