On a breezy and sunny Saturday afternoon (18th April) on the banks of the River Thames at the Imperial College Sports Ground, Teddington, the OCFC continued its remarkable run of success when the 1st XI beat Lancing Old Boys in the final of the Arthur Dunn Cup in front of a healthy crowd of about 300 people. As potential league winners, the team was favourite and when Henry Nash headed home Alan Mezzetti’s clever free kick after 6 minutes it seemed that the cup was going to be theirs.
Lancing with SPMA’s younger brother Gareth as team captain, were not to be moved though and they contributed to an energetic if somewhat over zealous game of football. The OCs were rarely allowed to get into their passing game.
With the wind against them in the second half it seemed that the OCs had settled down and several chances were missed, a story of the passed few weeks when getting the second goal has proved difficult in the league. With Lancing’s dangerous set pieces it was inevitable that only one mistake by the sturdy defence of Seb Henkes and Fred Palley would cause an upset. Indeed Will Young had to make good saves to keep his goal in tack. With 3 minutes left on the clock and the cup seemingly going back to Charterhouse, a Lancing long throw (one of many by both teams in the game) was headed at the near post midst a melee of shirts and it was 1-1. Extra time loomed and in that period the OCs took the first 15 minutes to get their momentum.
Playing into the wind in the final session and with Lancing tiring, they should have sealed the victory but Lancing hung on bravely. It came to penalties and some of the OC squad had missed penalties in ISFA cup ties, so how confident would they be? Well to take off some pressure, Will Young saved Lancing’s first attempt and from that point with their noses in front the famous hooped shirts of navy, cerise and pink saw out a 5-4 penalty win with Clark, Bailey, Nash H, Nash C and Mezzetti keeping their nerve.
Henry Nash lifted the Cup for the second time in two years, with the league all but wrapped up this means a third league / cup double in the last four years. This was the club’s 22 Dunn win since OCFC contested the first final in 1904.
As usual the OCs centre back pairing of Seb Henkes and Fred Palley were solid, Will Clark produced an excellent example of centre forward play chasing everything down and Alan Mezzetti was calmness personified.

After a triumphant season last year, The OCFC have set another record. As reported in the Daily Mail on Monday 26th January, Louis Adomakoh, (R73) made history. Louis became the oldest player to score a goal in the 104-year history of the Arthur Dunn Cup. Aged 51, he played as a substitute to score when they won their first round match against the Old Cholmeleians. For more details on OCFC matches, contact Nick Leale on Nick.Leale@bllaw.co.uk

On Saturday 26 May the OCFC completed their greatest season since the FA Cup winning year of 1881!
Five trophies were won. The 1st XI completed the Double, winning the Arthur Dunn Cup 1-0 in the Final against Old Brentwoods and finishing the League season with a record points total, having won 16 out of 18 games. It is the Club's second Double in three seasons: that is unprecedented. The Club has now won the Arthur Dunn Cup 21 times; no other Club comes close to that figure.
The 2nd XI and 3rd XI also won their respective Leagues, with the 2nd XI winning the reserve team League for the first time since 1987. It is the first time the Club has seen all three regular sides win their divisions in the same season.
Finally, the Veterans XI won the Derrick Moore Cup and have now won this competition a record five times.
Chairman Nick Leale says, "this was a truly remarkable season the like of which we have not seen before. As always it is not just about the incredible quality of the footballers produced by Malcolm Bailey and others at the school but also brilliant organisation on the part of Captains Henry Nash, Will Frost, James Kibbey and Nick Waters " and an ongoing, unerring will to win generated by pulling on the famous pick, magenta and blue shirt. The Club's thanks go out to all those who have lent their support this season and will do everything to live up to the expected heady expectations of season 08/09!"
Just to remind you of the silverware won this season by the OCFC:
