Real Tennis Victory

It was an all-Carthusian final again in this year in the Henry Leaf Tournament, the Public School Old Boys Real Tennis Cup which was held at Leamington Real Tennis Club on the 17th & 18th April 2010. Both Old Carthusian pairs progressed with relative ease to face each other for the second year running in the best-of-three sets final. Sir Andrew Hamilton (g71)  and William Donger (R71) the Old Carthusian 2nd pair, had looked very impressive in their demolition of Sevenoaks in the semi-final and had nothing to lose going into the final against the Old Carthusian 1st pair, James Acheson-Gray (V89) and Adam Dolman (V99). Donger and Acheson-Gray had some fearsome exchanges early on, but it was Acheson-Gray's impeccable volleying and huge reach which gave the Old Carthusian 1st pair the first set 6-0. Hamilton and Donger continued to improve and threatened to get back into the match but Acheson-Gray and Dolman proved too strong, going on to win the second set decisively 6-1.

This is another great achievement for the Old Carthusian Real Tennis Club; all involved are thoroughly looking forward to trying to make it three in a row at next year’s event, which will be held at the Burroughs Club in January 2011.
