Martin Klosterfelde Art Talk
Recently, Mr Martin Klosterfelde, a distinguished art dealer from Hamburg and a current parent, visited the School to offer an engaging perspective on prominent German artists during the Reunification period.
Bibi (Year 12) shares her thoughts:
On Monday night, we were fortunate to have Mr Klosterfelde, a Charterhouse parent, speak to us about his extensive career in art dealership. We were also delighted to welcome back Mrs Barran, who did her PGCE placement with the MFL faculty last year, from Christ’s Hospital School with her A Level pupils.
Mr Klosterfelde educated us on prominent German artists during the Reunification period in Germany, which was initiated after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Throughout the talk, we were introduced to five artists of the time, Martin Kippenberger, Daniel Richter, Jörg Immendorff, Albert Oehlen and Neo Rauch.
He also took us through a brief history of each of their work, as well as describing his own experiences with and opinions on each individual. Personally, I found a particular interest in Daniel Richter, as his works were both visually appealing and poignant. Overall Mr Klosterfelde’s presentation was both informative and entertaining, and I believe all the pupils and teachers alike enjoyed it.
Vielen Dank Herr Klosterfelde!
