Recent leaver vows to help find a cure in her lifetime and raises over £5000

This summer, on her 18th birthday, recent leaver Millie Vacher (V 2018) shaved her head in support of Alzheimer's Research UK. Her goal was to raise £1,500 but she exceeded this and so far has raised over £5,000 for the charity. 

Millie shares her story here:

"The experience was all amazing as it was sort of my birthday party- I had about 30 friends over and everyone got to either cut a bit or shave a bit off and the atmosphere was amazing as I knew I had so much support from my friends and family. My Granny also came despite not really understanding why she was there or what was going on- every time she would ask what was happening and I would tell her I was shaving my head, she would discouragingly say 'No Millie, you can't possibly do that, you're far too pretty' which I found hugely amusing since it was all for her. But yes it was a lovely day.

"Jill has now had Alzheimer's for about 15 years and it was very early onset as she is only 74 now. It has only radically got worse in the last 4 years I'd say as I never really noticed (as far as I can remember) before then, or perhaps I was just too young and naive to notice/ understand. Since doing this shave I have grown more and more passionate about the charity and how much could be achieved and I'm certain I will do plenty more with and for Alzheimer's Research UK as I've also been congratulated and scouted by the South East Regional Fundraising Officer - Georgi Welch - to help more with the charity. I'm very excited for the future of this charity and hopefully a cure!"
