'Shivermetimbers' Success

Congratulations to our new pocket rocket, Shivermetimbers, who ran a solid NH flat bumper race (his first ever time on a racecourse, at Warwick yesterday), to win for the OCRS colours.

A slightly skittish performance in the ring from what was to all concerned an untried horse may have contributed to his odds lengthening almost to 10 - 1 just before the race. This was against the earlier prediction of shortening odds due to back to back wins for our trainer Venetia Williams in the first two races. The pace was modest throughout until the last hurdle length before the end when Timbers strode out with purpose to take the race by a relatively untroubled 2 - 3 length lead. Indeed our jockey, Liam Treadwell’s only complaint after the race was the length he had to go before he could pull him up.

There will be sterner tests to come but as we all acknowledge – we do have a racehorse. Great thanks, then, to our trainer and the yard and of course to all his supporters from the School and beyond.
