SIXTH FORM Examination Results 2019

This year’s Charterhouse school leavers have equalled last year’s superb examination record by attaining 92% Distinction and Merit grades in their Pre-U public examinations.

Forty-three pupils attained Distinctions (or A Level equivalent) in every one of the subjects they took. Over 50% of all grades achieved were A* or A, and over 4 out of 5 grades were A*-B.

The largest Sixth Form cohort on our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) has recorded excellent results too, and our IBDP graduates have maintained an average points score well beyond the international average.

Our pupils have secured places at some of the world’s top universities: eleven will take up offers at Oxford and Cambridge, nine at Durham, and fifteen at UCL. Beyond the UK, this year’s leavers will attend Bocconi, NYU Stern, Princeton, Brown, Columbia and Chicago.

Dr Alex Peterken, Head Master, is delighted: “Our leavers have done exceptionally well, and I am so happy to see their academic success. Our pupils committed diligently to challenging academic courses, and they are to be congratulated on the perseverance and hard work they have shown in the Sixth Form”.

Dr Peterken also thanked all the school’s teachers, for their dedication in working closely with pupils, and expressed gratitude for the support for pupils that comes from all in the Charterhouse community.

GCSE RESULTS 2019

This is the first year that all GCSEs at Charterhouse have been graded on the new 9-1 scale.

The grades 9, 8 and 7 replace the previous A* and A grades, and at Charterhouse over 50% of pupils’ grades were 9-8, an incredible achievement in this new grading system. Furthermore, 25% of all grades awarded were 9, the highest possible grade attainable, and well above the former A*.

All of our pupils take at least 9 GCSEs, and of these an impressive 46 pupils gained 9 or more GCSEs that were all graded 9-7.

Finally, 24 pupils achieved grades all of which were classed in the 9-8 band, the highest marks available at GCSE.

Dr Alex Peterken, Headmaster, expressed his delight at what pupils have achieved, and gratitude to teaching staff who have guided and supported pupils so well through these examination reforms.
