Mrs Catherine McDonald
Housemistress from September 2020
It is a great pleasure to introduce myself as the incoming Housemistress of Fletcherites, a house that in my ten years at Charterhouse I have come to have much affection for. I was a tutor in Fletcherites for seven years and so am all the more delighted to be returning to it. From September 2020, I will run Fletcherites as an extension of my home and welcome the girls as part of my extended family. Charterhouse presents so many exciting opportunities for pupils, and in Fletcherites I will aim to continue the great work done by Alice Brooking in making a happy, open, home-away-from-home, from which the girls can go out into the School, and then the wider world, and flourish.
I have taught at Charterhouse since 2009 (I am currently Head of History and Assistant Housemistress in Bodeites), and have become very fond of the School, its fabulous pupils, staff, and facilities, as well as the weird and wonderful traditions and terminology that help to make it such a special place. Before coming to Charterhouse I had read History at Cambridge, and then qualified and worked as a solicitor. Leaving the City behind, in my time at Charterhouse I have been Head of History, Master of the Specialists, run the golf team, coached netball and athletics and been on countless expeditions and school trips. I love the outdoors and, together with my family, spend much of the holidays in the Scottish Highlands.
It really is a privilege to live and work in such a vibrant and inspiring community and I, together with my husband Andrew, our children Hamish and Florence (and our two ever so friendly springer spaniels) am very much looking forward to sharing that with the Fletcherites girls at such an exciting time for Charterhouse.
