Sixth Form pupils win array of medals at British Biology Olympiad

At the beginning of February, our First and Second Year Specialists (Year 12 and 13) competed in this year’s British Biology Olympiad (BBO).

We are thrilled to announce that the Second Year Specialists were awarded 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals. This is especially exciting as out of 10,000 contestants our Head Girl, Iona, has been invited to compete as one of the top 16 for the honour of representing Great Britain in the International Biology Olympiad.

Our First Year Specialists also competed extremely well, achieving 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.

The BBO is the first stage in selecting a team to represent the UK at the International Biology Olympiad. Iona will now attend a four-day selection event at Warwick University during the Easter break where she will receive training and undergo a number of practical and theoretical assessments. The four candidates chosen to represent the United Kingdom will be announced at the end of that event. They will receive further training before competing for the UK in the International Biology Olympiad in Hungary in the summer.

This is a fantastic achievement, well done to all the pupils involved.
