All Year 12 pupils studying Economics and Business, as well as members of the Investment Society, took part in Amplify Trading’s Global Market simulation session
This is the same simulation used to train new graduate hires at Morgan Stanley and Bank of America, as well as other top investment banks.
This online, fully immersive experience, allowed pupils to find out what it would be like to work on an investment bank trading floor as a market maker and at an asset management firm as a portfolio manager. They traded equities such as HSBC, Alibaba, BP and Microsoft, and had to react to breaking news and share price movements. On the asset management side, they started with £20m and had to buy and sell shares from market maker pupils, to try and make a profit. As market makers, pupils had to give bids and offer prices to the portfolio managers and do trades to make commission, and then buy back shares in the market to reduce their market risk. It was a great way to enhance their understanding of markets and pupils were very engaged and focused during the sessions.
