Biology Successes

As we pass a number of COVID-19 anniversaries we should acknowledge that this has been a very difficult year for young people. This is to celebrate the fantastic response of our pupils, here exemplified by our Biology sixth formers

Despite the challenges of online working our Year 12 biologists, by some margin, have shown record engagement in our Biology societies. These are all optional and are on top of a very full Charterhouse curricular and co-curricular programme.

  • Perception's outstanding programme of thought leading lectures have been well attended with some excellent pupil questions.

  • Polunin, our interactive Biology stretch society has had record attendance and real engagement as we grapple with some university level biological problems.

  • In Medics Society pupils present and then chair a discussion on a topic of their choice. The attendance and quality of presentations has been simply outstanding this year.

Almost half our Year 12 pupils are weekly attendees at least one of these optional events and our Biology Olympiad Team have recently earned a record number of medals and certificates.

Our Year 13 pupils have, until very recently, been anticipating their exams almost immediately on their return to School. The early Biology exams mean the revision programmes starts earlier than in other subjects.  Attendance at the optional revision classes has been at record levels with average attendance at over two thirds making an impressive average of 16 optional revision sessions session per pupil!

Well done to all our sixth formers on an outstanding response to the real challenges thrown at them in the COVID-19 year.
