Sharing Surgical Skills

Sharing Surgical Skills

Thirty pupils from our Medics and Dissection Societies came together for a special Biology Week collaboration following an initiative from the two society Presidents.

Pupils worked in pairs, with each pair including one Sixth Form pupil and one from the Underschool. The first task each pair were challenged with was to dissect a pluck – a sheep’s thoracic organs – and then stitch it back together again.

Next, pupils were taught how to suture thanks to Dr Warren, our resident vet. Pupils then used the event to pass on these surgical skills, using real surgical equipment, to their classmates, under the watchful eye of Biology Teacher, Mrs Higgins.

The event was a great showcase and celebration of our new Biology laboratories.
