The start of Long Quarter 2018 (Spring Term) saw the launch of ‘The Charterhouse Half-Century’, a new reading list of fifty-highly-readable titles which pupils can aspire to read in their time at the School. In OQ pupils were invited to suggest their favourite books for inclusion in the list and the final ‘Half-Century’ is drawn entirely from their recommendations. It aims to include something for everyone, with a wide-range of genres ranging from literary-fiction to graphic novels, from politics to popular science, from medicine to memoir.
Each Quarter a title from the list will be selected as a ‘Book of the Quarter’, with pupils encouraged to read this book and discuss it with their tutors in tutorials. After a vote in the first week of term, pupils have chosen ‘1984’ by George Orwell as the first ‘Book of the Quarter’ for Long Quarter 2018.
