Exam success for our partner school Broadwater
Congratulations to Broadwater School, our nearest secondary neighbour and valued partner, on the best GCSE results in the school’s history!
30% of all 2019 results at Broadwater were in the 9-7 category (the old A*/A grades), while 71% of students achieved 5 or more GCSE’s at a grade 4 or above. This is a phenomenal 22% increase on the previous year’s results.
In a testament to the importance of the Broadwater-Charterhouse Educational Partnership, signed in 2018, Year 11 pupils who took part in the Broadwater-Charterhouse Raising Aspirations programme achieved some of the most outstanding results. Those students, who attended a range of academic and enrichment sessions at Charterhouse, had average Progress 8 scores of 1.24. This means they achieved one and a quarter grades higher in every subject, compared to the national average of students with similar prior attainment. Broadwater’s Progress 8 score across the whole cohort was 0.14.
Amongst the outstanding pupils with whom we were lucky to work are Ted Barnett (who achieved 8 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s) and Gemma Spencer (8 grade 9s and 2 grade 7s). Huge congratulations to them and their peers on such outstanding results.
Last week, we welcomed all of Broadwater’s current Year 11s for a lecture on exam technique; next week sees the second session in the 2019-20 Raising Aspirations programme for another cohort of exceptional Broadwater students.
Lizzi Matthews, headteacher of Broadwater, said, “Between us, Broadwater and Charterhouse educate 1,300 young people in Godalming. Our shared belief in the value of educational partnership, and of state and independent schools working more closely and strategically together, has been validated by these excellent results. We are so proud of our students and so excited to see what the next year of the Broadwater-Charterhouse Educational Partnership brings.”
