Feminist Society Leads Chapel

The Feminist Society (Femsoc) led a Chapel service with a powerful message in honour of International Women’s Day. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” highlights the importance of taking small, meaningful steps toward achieving gender equality sooner rather than later.

Maddy: Imagine what the world could look like if we actively supported young girls who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Imagine the breakthroughs that could happen if women had equal access to the resources, training, and mentorship they need to excel.

Mateo: One way which we can accelerate action is by promoting women’s economic empowerment and supporting women into leadership roles. We are not just thinking about the pay gap, we are thinking about fair and equal opportunities. In the past 40 years, women have outnumbered men on university campuses nation wide. Women also earn more that 50% of bachelor degrees in the United States. Despite the over proportional representation of women in higher education, this has sadly not been translated into employment.
