On Thursday 6 June, Year 7 pupils from Broadwater School visited our Biology department to learn more about enzymes in digestion. This group of Gifted & Talented pupils participated in a session focused on understanding the role of enzymes, particularly amylase, in the digestive process.
The session was led by 11 of our Biology peer mentors, each working closely with a pair of pupils. The peer mentors guided the pupils through a planning session to set up an experiment investigating the effect of pH on amylase activity. The collaboration between the peer mentors and Broadwater pupils was exceptional, resulting in an engaging and educational experience for everyone involved.
By the end of the 90-minute session, the pupils had developed a much deeper understanding of how enzymes function in digestion and the impact of pH on their activity. This successful outcome was thanks in part to the brilliant leadership demonstrated by our peer mentors.
