The Politics Society had the privilege of welcoming Old Carthusian Mark Garnier OBE, MP for Wyre Forest, for an engaging and insightful evening on Thursday 7 November. Mr Garnier shared his experiences from Westminster, offering pupils a unique insider’s perspective on political life.
Mr Garnier’s visit began at reception, from which he was taken to our Lecture Theatre by the President of the Politics Society and Head of Politics, Miss Peters. On the way he told several tales of his time at Charterhouse, including a humorous story involving a reprimand from former Head Brian Rees.
Once in the Lecture Theatre, Mr Garnier was interviewed by the President of the Politics Society, who facilitated a discussion that covered a wide range of topics, from the current US election to pressing matters within the Conservative Party. The audience of politics pupils then joined in, seizing the opportunity to ask about Mr Garnier’s views on global and domestic issues.
Following the talk, Mr Garnier continued conversations with a select group of twenty pupils, allowing for a more personal exchange and enabling them to delve deeper into his career and insights.
After a productive and inspiring evening, Mr Garnier returned to his constituency in the West Midlands. Charterhouse and the Politics Society extend their sincere gratitude to Mr Garnier for his time and the invaluable insights he shared, which made for an unforgettable experience for our pupils.
