Technognition Day

Technognition Day

To mark #Techognition Day we're reflecting on how lucky we are to have a range of academic technicians supporting us

Science technician, Mr Huw Hallybone, gave an insight into what his job entails: "The science laboratory technicians work hard behind the scenes to support the teaching staff by organising equipment and supplies to provide the best possible practical science experience for the students.  Experiments are right at the core of science education, teaching the students planning, data recording, analysis and physical dexterity skills to complement their theoretical learning.  The technicians are responsible to providing the right equipment and reagents to the laboratory for each practical and, of course tidying up afterwards!   This requires a great amount of project planning and execution in addition to considerable science knowledge, training and experience."

Head of Science, Mr Tim Hingston, added: “At the heart of high quality science education is practical work, the effective delivery of which would not be possible without good technicians and I have not yet met a science teacher who would disagree; they are, quite simply, essential.
