In the latest issue of Atomic Magazine, Charterhouse's entirely pupil-led, written, and published scientific magazine, Khalel (Year 13) explores Vitamin D, the 'sunshine' vitamin and its crucial role in maintaining our health. 

Have you ever wondered why during the winter times, you feel a little down, your bones a little sore and achy and your skin more inflamed?

The answer to these problems probably lies with your low intake of Vitamin D. When we have a proper routine and meet the sun every waking morning, not only are we improving many other things like our circadian rhythm, but we are ensuring we intake Vitamin D as well.

The concept of vitamin D being healthy is not new for most of us - in fact when our parents tell us to ‘catch some sunlight’ it directly makes us soak up the precious vitamin, which is vital to our living.

However, what is it about the vitamin D that makes it so special and necessary and how does it link to the common symptoms we get in winter? Furthermore, what are the benefits of implementing increased uptake of this vitamin? (cont.)
