LAMDA Showcase

LAMDA Showcase

Last week, our pupils took part in the second LAMDA showcase of the year, performing for parents, staff and peers in the Ben Travers Theatre.

We have over 40 pupils, from all year groups taking LAMDA Exams next week in a range of disciplines including Acting, Public Speaking and Verse and Prose. The showcase allows the pupils to perform for an audience and acts as a dress rehearsal ahead of the examination.

The showcase started on a light-hearted note with comedic pieces by Alan Ayckbourn and Noel Coward, performed by Aomi and Jemima. Timipre performed a piece from ‘Noises Off’, playing a director in the midst of a terrible rehearsal.

Keeping with the theatrical theme, Lottie performed ‘Playhouse Creatures’, playing Mrs Betterton who is retiring from the theatre in order to give younger actresses ‘a chance’.

Zara, Daniel and Sarah, all of whom are taking the Gold Medal in acting, impressed the audience with mature, confident performances of their modern monologues. Year 10 pupils, Miya and and Sofia, brought the Drama, with set LAMDA pieces ‘Pygmalion’ and ‘Bird’, whilst Honor amused the audience as she performed a monologue from Oscar Wilde’s ‘An ideal Husband’, as Mabel Chiltern – unhappy with the way in which Tommy Trafford keeps proposing.

Closing the show was Krishiv, entertaining as Ernie, a character experiencing incredible illucinations.

It is a daunting experience to perform a monologue on stage with no props or costume. Each pupil had to create the world of their piece, and take the audience on a journey with them. It was clear that the performers rose to the challenge as pieces were performed with heart, clarity and ease. We hope that it was an enjoyable experience to have a moment in the spotlight in the Ben Travers Theatre.

We would like to wish all the pupils good luck with LAMDA Exams next week!
