Catch up with the latest news from Les Mis Schools' Edition, LAMDA and A Level performances

Lucky us to have had a trip for cast and crew last Friday to see our Actor in Residence, Mr Dean Chisnall, playing Jean Valjean in the Les Misérables staged concert at the West End’s Sondheim Theatre. It was a truly magical and emotional evening for us all and we returned to rehearsals on Saturday rejuvenated and inspired, with a real understanding of what it is to work as a company on stage with energy and commitment… and as determined as ever to bring our own production of Les Misérables to Charterhouse at the Ben Travers Theatre (BTT), despite the hurdles hurled our way since we started out on our project in November!

The costumes are going on …… Mrs Christine Todd (Mistress of the Robes!) has been busy making tricolore sashes and dying rags with tea, coffee and hair dye!). We are so grateful to her for all the fitting, washing, mending and sewing she is doing in her not so ‘spare time’!

The set is going up …..And today we had fun with radio mics and spot lights!  So, it’s all systems go in the BTT.

We have also this week welcomed Annabelle and Neve who are playing our mini-Cosettes. The girls are in Year 5 at Edgeborough and they have blown us away with their stage presence and fearlessness! Bundles of talent and not daunted by the nasty Thénardiers! What a wonderful way to mark the start of the partnership between Charterhouse and Edgeborough.

We so look forward to welcoming as many of you as we can to see the production next week. The world needs to see the return of live theatre, so we’re aiming to do our bit for you!

Please keep an eye on the school website for updates on tickets and any changes we may now have to make to seating. We will do our very best to accommodate those who want to hear the people sing!

LAMDA

Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to prepare for their LAMDA exams last week. It was lovely to see some of the monologues performed in the BTT Foyer on Wednesday.

A LEVEL devised piece

Our Year 12 theatre pupils performed their examined devised piece to a select audience on Monday. A moving and slick performance by the group which dealt with the issue of PTSD and used Berkoff and Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’ as springboards for their work. Well done to you all.
