The Box Office Society made a special trip to the theatre last week. Year 12 pupil Zoe recounts her evening in London’s West End.
Last Tuesday a group of pupils and I attended The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre, in London. The show was incredible. The usage of lighting, set and costume all contributed to a cohesive and stunning production. The cast were engaging and immensely talented. However, one actor in particular stood out. The Phantom had an incredible range vocally and in his physical performance. The audience both feared him and felt for him, which is exactly what a great Phantom should do. The actor also executed some incredible stunts, such as disappearing into thin air and magically re-appearing on top of a gigantic stone horse statue. The Phantom, I am so pleased to say, was our very own Mr Chisnall. I have worked with him for just over two years now, and although I had no doubt of expertise, seeing Mr Chisnall in his element was truly inspiring. I can confidently say that we are all blessed to have such a kind, hardworking and talented performer teaching us.
Having Charterhouse pupils on a West End stage with me after the performance was a huge honour but having the pupils watch me in the show was utterly terrifying! I value them and their opinion greatly. I hope it inspired them in some way.
