Our pupils enjoy a fantastic Lute and Early Instrument masterclass with Andrew Maginley
On Tuesday 30 April, we welcomed Andrew Maginley to our Music Department to give our pupils a masterclass on early instruments, particularly the Lute and Theorbo. Andrew is one of the foremost players in this country having studied in both New York, and the United Kingdom and is a regular performer with all of the early music ensembles across Europe.
Andrew gave the masterclass on Tuesday afternoon, explaining the history and chronology of the instruments. Students were even allowed to try their hand at playing! Andrew then moved to the Chapel where, amidst the glorious acoustic and setting, the sound of his lute rung out in two beautiful Sonatas by Sylvius Weiss and Adam Falckenhagen.
We would like to offer our thanks to Andrew for providing such a fascinating afternoon, enjoyed by both staff and pupils.
Photographs from the masterclass can be viewed below.
