Holocaust Memorial Day: Torn from home

Our Library has put together a display of reading recommendations for Holocaust Memorial Day 2019

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. 27 January marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

Leslie Kleinman, a Holocaust survivor, said when he visited Charterhouse last year: ‘My message is that we should love and have tolerance towards one another. To stand up for what is right and not allow hatred to destroy our future’. His handwritten words and the poem ‘In Memory of those we Lost and Loved’, written by his wife Miriam Kleinman, are on display in Library, together with a selection of books and articles chosen to reflect this year’s HMD theme: Torn from home.
