Two exciting music performances held at Guildford Cathedral this week
With such a wealth of music-making around Guildford, forming links with other establishments is crucial to the outreach work of Charterhouse School. This Term, the Music Department can boast two performances down the road at Guildford Cathedral, joining forces with fellow musicians.
On Saturday 27 April, Mr Mark Shepherd, our Director of Music, took a small group of Carthusian musicians to combine with other fellow young musicians at Guildford Cathedral in a performance of Haydn’s Creation, conducted by 17 year-old Max Tord. This is no small undertaking at such a young age and the performance was a real success, a real testament to the maturity with which the teenage musicians were all working and understanding each other.
On Friday 3 May, 5.30pm, the Charterhouse Chamber Choir return to the Cathedral to perform a joint service of Evensong with the girls’ choir, all under the direction of Director of Music and Organist Katherine Dienes-Williams. Music is by Dyson and Purcell and promises to be a wonderful occasion of music making by the combined choirs. Not to be missed!
