Carthusian Day

Carthusian Day

This year's Carthusian Day saw thousands from across the Charterhouse community come together to celebrate all that makes the School so special.

The day began with Prize Giving, where The Head made it just in time – having parachuted from 10,000 feet to raise money for The Fountain Centre.

Congratulations to all those who received awards, and to everyone for a successful year at the School.

The outgoing Heads of School delivered thoughtful and heartfelt speeches, reflecting on their time at Charterhouse, sharing treasured memories, and expressing gratitude to those who shaped their journeys.

Where else can you attend Scottish Dancing on a Monday, watch a West End-quality production in the BTT on a Tuesday, host a society on a Wednesday, meet Sir John Major on a Thursday, and round off the week with House Mario Kart on a Friday?

The connections you make at Charterhouse are invaluable – and not just for LinkedIn.

The Supporters' Garden Party followed shortly in the Old Headmaster’s House garden. Thank you to all who came, enjoyed the music, and made the most of the brief windows of sun.

The rest of the day saw activity all over the campus, with both the Girls’ and Boys’ Cricket First XIs in action on Maniacs and Green respectively. J Ground was abuzz with energy, with the Marquee and House Tents full of atmosphere. The Big Band performed live music for those gathered, whilst our fantastic catering team served up delicious food.

With exhibitions in Art, Design Engineering, and the Library, as well as an impressive Chinese Village Exhibition, guests were spoilt for choice – we hope you managed to catch everything!

The Carthusian Family Doubles Tennis Tournament was our biggest yet, with 57 pairs taking to the courts and finishing just in time for tea.

Thank you also to Miss Batty, Mr Tink, Mr Budden, and Mr Encinas for ensuring a smooth running of the afternoon. Thank you to all the spectators as well – it was amazing to see so many people around the Astro and the QSC Hard Courts. Your support was hugely appreciated and added to the positive atmosphere. It was lovely to see a number of new faces as well as families who have played on Carthusian Day before.

The Song and Dance Showcase at the Ben Travers Theatre was a stunning display of talent, energy, and collaboration – featuring spectacular performances from Wicked, Les Misérables, and a dance number to rival any professional stage.

Before Tea, a gathering was held in the Library for its official renaming to The Witheridge Library, in honour of John Witheridge, who served as Headmaster from 1996 to 2013.

The Charterhouse Carillon rang out 37 times to announce Tea, where the CCF stood ready for the much-anticipated annual tug-of-war – bringing a memorable day to a close.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the spirit, achievements, and community that define Charterhouse.
