Charterhouse Plant Nursery

The man behind our thriving and sustainable Plant Nursery

In 2014, our Head Gardener, Mr James Greenshields, set up the Charterhouse Plant Nursery. James joined the School in 2011, as a gardener, and was appointed Head Gardener in August last year.

The Nursery was set up as an opportunity to grow a free stock of plants that the Grounds team could invest back into the School grounds. After a successful surge of plant sales at our annual School event, Carthusian Day, James saw an exciting opportunity and decided to increase their stock, making the plants available for purchase within the Charterhouse community.

Since its launch, the Plant Nursery has proved extremely popular and has raised over £7,500, an impressive amount which has been invested directly back into all of the gardens around the School. The nursery currently offers a wide variety of shrubs, trees, alpines, grasses, shade plants, roses and herbs.

Located next to the Peter May Pavilion, the Charterhouse Plant Nursery is open fortnightly, on Tuesday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm, including holidays.

Prices range from £4 for a regular sized 3 litre pot, to £10 for a large 10 litre pot.
