In June, we held our first safeguarding conference, 'In Safe Hands, Flourishing Teens'. This event brought together over a hundred parents, Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) from local schools, and professionals from various local agencies. Special guest speakers - Marienna Pope-Weidemann, Verity Nevitt and Martin Cosser, shone a light on some difficult issues through powerful keynote presentations.
The day was so incredibly informative, the speakers breath-takingly courageous and I am absolutely certain that I will feel the value of all I took from the day for a very long time.

At Charterhouse, our vision is to be recognised as a centre of excellence for safeguarding. Achieving this vision requires a collaborative effort with parents and the broader community because safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Too often, children and young people are let down, sometimes with catastrophic consequences, because the adults around them fail to share vital information. 'In Safe Hands' was designed to foster a strong partnership between parents and professionals, ensuring that we work together in a child-centred way to provide young people with the right support at the right time.
Special guest speakers - Marienna Pope-Weidemann, Verity Nevitt and Martin Cosser, shone a light on some difficult issues through powerful keynote presentations. We were also proud to introduce the fantastic team at Charterhouse, dedicated to supporting young people and their families through difficult moments. The overwhelming turnout and engagement from parents, DSLs, and local professionals highlighted the shared commitment to safeguarding our young people.
As we reflect on the success of our first safeguarding conference, we extend our thanks to everyone who participated. Together, we can ensure that every young person is safe, supported, and able to flourish.
It was a tough listen. But that's what this work is all about. We mustn't shy away from talking about difficult issues. We have to keep giving our young people the language and permission to learn and explore these subjects to keep them safe. 'In Safe Hands' will be an annual event and parents will receive regular safeguarding updates through our 'Parent Safeguarding Sways' and informative in-person briefings.

I was so impressed by the dozen or so new Monitors at the start. So amazing to hear them speak at their age with such confidence and clarity, and with such thoughtful answers. I feel so lucky that our daughter is embarking on her time at Charterhouse with such role models ahead of her.
