Over the Easter holidays, a group of Carthusians took part in an extraordinary Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in the remote wilderness of Norway, ultimately earning their certificates. Paddling through Arctic waters and encountering both physical challenges and stunning natural beauty, they demonstrated incredible resilience, determination, and teamwork.
Stasys (Year 13) reflects on an unforgettable achievement:
Taking part in the Gold DofE paddling expedition in the far north of Norway was an unforgettable experience. From battling strong currents to dedicating countless hours to training, the journey was full of challenges — but morale within the group remained high throughout.
Teamwork and collaboration were at the heart of everything we did, and they are what made our success possible. Spending nearly a week beyond the Arctic Circle with friends and experiencing the surreal beauty of the polar day was something I will always remember. It was a true privilege to be part of this programme, and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it.
I would absolutely recommend the Gold DofE to anyone considering it.
Thank you to Mr Andrew Brinkley, Mr Ewan Bramhall, and Head of DofE Mr David Martucci for their dedication and support of our pupils throughout this challenging endeavour.
