On Saturday 29 June, pupils and their families gathered with staff to celebrate the end of their time at Charterhouse. A poignant occasion where the atmosphere is charged with excitement for the future, tempered by the bittersweet reality of parting ways.
Each year, our graduating class amazes me with its energy and commitment to all that Charterhouse offers. I hope that the rewards of those incredible efforts are enjoyed and celebrated today in particular as family, friends and staff come together to honour your time as Carthusians and welcome you to our Old Carthusian community.
Head - Dr Alex Peterken
The day got under way with tea and coffee served outside South African Cloister. At 11am the traditional 'Walking Round Green' preceded a final Chapel service marking the formal end of a pupil's time at School. This Charterhouse tradition goes back a very long way, it is mentioned in events for the tercentenary celebrations in 1911. All pupils walk two loops of Green, led by the four Heads of School, with the leavers walking a third loop on their own.
Later that evening all returned dressed in style for the Leavers’ Ball an unforgettable evening of dining, dancing, and celebrations. Some of the highlights included the carousel, big wheel, the silent disco and fabulous live music!
Though we end this chapter of our lives we also start a new one, cherishing the opportunities, memories and friendships we have had the privilege to create at Charterhouse.
