Pupils Fundraise for Mary’s Meals

As part of the Charities Committee’s busy calendar of fundraising for a variety of causes, we are delighted to report that our last Mufti Day raised over £1,850 for charity!

The Committee, which is led and staffed entirely by pupils from across the School, chose on this occasion to support Mary’s Meals, a remarkable charity which provides school food for children in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The whole School heard from its director, Peter Higgins, who spoke movingly in Chapel of the life-changing work, which Mary’s Meals does around the globe. Collections were then held in all boarding Houses, with many pupils choosing to give significantly more than the ‘recommended donation’.

Jil Sinnes, an Upper Sixth pupil and this year’s Head of Charities, commented, “As soon as we heard of Mary’s Meals and its amazing work worldwide, the whole Committee was keen to support it with one of our Mufti Days. We are delighted to have raised £1,850 for this wonderful cause.”

Each year, the Committee selects three ‘Charities of the Term’, as well as organising a host of events in support of these and other one-off causes – ranging from bake sales, to Christmas cards and calendars, events at Artifex, and charity football matches.
